Admission Requirements and Criteria
Application Requirements

All applicants must provide the following documents for undergraduate admission:

  1. Completed application form found online at apply-now or available at the Admissions office
  2. Original OMANI GED (General Education Diploma) certificate or certified equivalent (approved by the Ministry of Education)
  3. Copy of a valid passport and identity card
  4. Copy of the birth certificate
  5. Four recent passport-size photographs (in color) or in JPEG file format
  6. Original certificate of good behavior
  7. Pay RO 5.00 non-refundable fee for the University’s ID card
  8. Pay RO 110.00 non-refundable fee for admission.

Admission Criteria

  1. A minimum overall score of “C” or “equivalent score” of “General Education Diploma” (GED) with the following conditions:

* Students should pass “College Admission Test” and “College interview”

Notes: Students with qualifications other than (GED) or GCC High school certificate are advised to submit equivalency certificate from Ministry of Education in OMAN or contact the admissions representatives at UOB to determine their eligibility.

  1. A minimum of PBT 500 in TOEFL (or IELTS – 5 overall; or TOEFL iBT– 61)[1] or must take the English Placement Test (EPT) at UOB.
  2. Must take the Math Placement Test (MPT) at UOB.
  3. Students shall be placed in (Foundation or credited) courses based on the placement test results as outlined in following table:

[1]If the University has reason to believe that a submitted TOEFL or IELTS score may not have been obtained under proper testing conditions, it reserves the right to require students to take the University’s English Placement Test. If there is a significant discrepancy between the submitted TOEFL or IELTS score and the result on the Placement Test, the University will make admission and placement decisions on the basis of the placement test score

Exemption: A student may be exempted from the Foundation Program area requirements by presenting an equivalent qualification, (IELTS or TOEFL, SAT and (ICDL in English)) or passing the challenge exam.


  1. Attestation of Documents and Equivalency letter.

All applicants for admission are required to obtain an Equivalency Certificate for their secondary school leaving qualifications from the OMAN Ministry of Education. The attestation/ratification process is dependent upon whether you completed your secondary schooling within the OMAN or outside the OMAN. Applicants who hold certificates from the SULTANT OF OMAN or GCC All applicants who have completed schooling within the OMAN or GCC are required to get their certificates attested/ratified by the educational authority in the city where they did their final year of studies. All applicants who hold certificates other than (GED) or GCC curriculum are required to get an Equivalency Certificate in addition to the attestation/ratification from the educational authority. Applicants who hold certificates from outside OMAN Applicants who obtained their secondary school certificates outside OMAN are required to ratify/attest their certificates for all secondary school levels/grades (e.g. grade 10, 11 and 12) and provide an Equivalency Certificate from the following:

  1. The Ministry of Education or the educational authority in the country where studies were done.
  2. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country where studies were done.
  3. The OMAN Embassy in the country where studies were done.
  4. In case the attestations couldn’t be done, as in b. and c., certificates must be attested/ratified by the embassy of the country where studies were done in OMAN as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in OMAN.
  5. After obtaining the above attestations/ratifications, the student must provide the Equivalency Certificate Issued by the Ministry of Education in OMAN.

If you are unable to provide the Equivalency Certificate as outlined above before the commencement of the semester, you will be asked to sign a “Declaration Letter” agreeing to provide the Equivalency Certificate. You will be permitted to begin your studies at UOB, but you will be given a maximum of one semester to get the Equivalency Certificate. UOB reserves the right to take appropriate action against any applicant who cannot provide the appropriate documentation during this time period, which may include termination of the student’s enrollment at UOB.



  1. Transfer Students
  • Students transferring from other universities recognized by the OMAN Ministry of Higher Education should also meet all the requirements stated under admission requirements for regular students.
  • Transfer students must submit original transcripts from the college/university they are transferring from. In addition, transfer students must submit the course syllabus and course description for each course they seek to transfer for credit.
  • In addition, they should have earned a GPA of not less than 2.0 and may only be given transfer credit for courses which are equivalent to those offered by UOB and in which they have received a minimum grade of C (equal to a GPA of 2.0 or 70%).
  • The maximum number of credits a student may transfer must not exceed 50% of the total hours required for graduation.
  • Transferred courses must match at least 80% of the course content of UOB courses.
  • Similar courses completed at different universities shall not be given twice the amount of course credit
  1. Visiting Students
  • Students must have passed all the prerequisites for the required subjects. (Original transcripts from the university in which the student is currently studying shall be provided).
  • Students must provide a copy of their passport and two recent photos (JPEG format file).
  • Students must fully adhere to UOB regulations and rules, including attendance.
  • Excluding short semesters, visiting students may take a maximum of 60 credit hours within duration not to exceed two (2) consecutive regular semesters.
  • Upon due compliance with all UOB admissions policies, a visiting student may be recognized as a regular student.
  • Like their regular student counterparts, visiting students are allowed to register for UOB courses at any time during the period of registration
  1. Audit Students

Students desiring to attend any UOB courses as Audit students must satisfy each of the following conditions:

  1. Provide evidence of prerequisite understanding of course content for each respective Course desiring to be audited, while obtaining any clarification from the respective course.
  2. Submit one copy of his/her passport, as well as two current photographs (JPEG file) to ARD.
  3. Remit full payment for regular course fees as required for Visiting/Short-course students.

Note: Adherence to course attendance policies and completion of formative/summative assessments shall not be required for Audit students.
