College of Health Sciences
Welcome to the College of Health Sciences of the University of Buraimi! The University of Buraimi (UoB) is located in the oasis town of Buraimi on Oman’s border with the city of Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates. It is a town that is fast becoming a hub of higher education. UoB is a young private university duly licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education of the Government of the Sultanate of Oman. The University has academic linkages and partnership with International Academic institutions.
It is UoB’s goal to become a truly international University offering benchmarked programs of the highest quality to the students in Oman.
The College of Health Sciences (CoHS) is one of the three constituent colleges of the UoB. It is licensed to offer undergraduate programs in Health Science disciplines; and the structure of each program is primarily modular in nature. The B.Sc. in Nursing and the B.Sc. in Optometry programs currently being offered by CoHS are benchmarked against comparable international programs. Specifically, the B.Sc. in Nursing program is modeled after the University of Applied Sciences Campus Vienna, Austria which offers 20 Bachelor’s, 16 Master’s degree programs and 11 Master’s degree programs for advanced professional training in various fields of study including Health. The Optometry program is modeled after the University of Bradford program. The Bradford University is a public research University established in 1966 in the United Kingdom.
The College endeavors to be at the forefront of health sciences education in Oman. It has several laboratories with state of the art equipment and new laboratories are established in the University’s new campus. The College works closely with potential employers and involves them right from the early stages of planning and course quality monitoring. Students are posted in Ministry of Health Institutions for experiential learning. Efforts are also afoot to benchmark the assessments and outcomes of the program against international professional examinations. The college is a resource center of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE). The College sends abroad Optometry students for advanced clinical training during the final year of study.
The CoHS is committed to promoting creativity and innovation in teaching and learning, as it aims to proactively enhance technology- mediated learning. Further, as the CoHS is philosophically based on the notion that learning precedes teaching, sound emphasis is placed on the continuing professional development of faculty members as well. Memberships in international associations, subscriptions to scientifically rigorous, peer-reviewed academic publications, and enhancement of the university library collection are all part of the strategic approach of the College. In expression of its commitment to quality the College is exploring various opportunities for international academic collaboration, and accreditation.
While consolidating the existing programs, the College is also actively involved in designing needs- based, contextually- relevant, and innovative health sciences programs including top-up and bridging programs in collaboration with international partners, as well as new programs in collaboration with professional bodies, and constituents of the healthcare industry.
Come join the College that is fully committed to equipping you for a purposeful, rewarding career and future in diverse healthcare services, and industry. You will be glad that you made the right choice!
